Snowy Winter McCall Mountain Engagement

Cozy Fireside Engagement Photos in Snowy McCall, Idaho

When this adventurous and fun-loving couple reached out about their engagement photos, they had a clear vision in mind: a snowy, cozy, mountain-inspired session. They wanted images that captured their playful spirit, their love for the outdoors, and the unique bond they share. While deep snow in the mountains can create some logistical challenges, we made it happen in the most magical way!

We decided to do the session near my home, where plowed paths and accessible areas allowed us to embrace the snow without being buried in it. With towering trees and a fresh layer of snow, the setting was perfect for the cozy winter vibe they envisioned.

We started with playful and romantic portraits along a narrow snowy path. This part of the session gave them a chance to have a variety of images in dressy casual outfits while staying dry, before changing into something cozier for more snow-filled moments.

Speaking of cozy—this couple and I had the idea to create a fireside scene that would feel straight out of a winter romance movie. I set up a firepit with blankets, a blowup mattress, and a retro wooden sled styled as a table for their favorite drinks. The atmosphere was perfect for capturing those quiet, intimate moments that make winter engagements so magical.

The fire took a little extra effort to get started—wet wood and winter go hand in hand—but that gave us time to watch the clouds roll in. The initially sunny day transformed into a gentle snowfall, making the whole scene even more picturesque. There’s something undeniably magical about cuddling by a fire while snow falls softly around you.

One of the best parts about working near the house was how easy it was to stay comfortable. The bride-to-be could quickly warm up and change outfits, and we could keep the session flowing without worrying about the cold too much. That flexibility made a huge difference in creating a variety of images they’ll treasure.

To wrap up the session, the couple brought a meaningful touch by sharing a toast to their future. It was such a fun and fitting way to end their cozy winter adventure.

Although this was the first time I set up a fireside session like this, it certainly won’t be the last! This cozy setup has quickly become one of my favorite 'sets,' and while we can’t always recreate the exact same look (thanks to changing weather, light, and snow conditions), it’s always fun to switch things up a bit. I’d love for someone to bring s’mores next time—because who doesn’t love chocolate?!
